Campus Energy Use
f you have ever walked past this kiosk resembling a bus shelter past the northeast side of Ben Franklin Hall, you probably wondered what it was.
This kiosk was designed to educate the BU community about solar energy and the university's energy consumption using Lusic Design Group's Building Dashboard Software. The project ultimately aims to develop energy-saving strategies for the university.
The building dashboard touchscreen software will also allow users to take an in-depth look at energy use in five campus buildings: Hartline Science Center, Student Recreation Center, Nelson Field House, Columbia Residence Hall and Elwell Residence Hall. These buildings were chose because they are popular with students or large consumers of energy.
WHAT HAS BLOOMSBURG UNIVERSITY DONE TO MAKE CAMPUS MORE GREEN EFFICIENT?

New Recycling Program
Bloomsburg University has teamed up with Bloomsburg Recycling Center to change the way BU recycles. BU has used a dual-stream recyclable collection program that has increase the volume of recycled materials and made collection simpler and more convenient.
In September of 2012, for example, the university collected 15,650 pounds of recycled materials. During september of last year the university collected 39,720 pounds- a 254% increase.

Tri-Level Parking Garage Lighting Project
Replacement of 65 fixtures located on the lower two parking decks and two stairwells which annually operate 8760 hours. The old fixtures were 290 Watt Metal Halide with annual use of 165,126 kwh/year costing $13,210. Opposed to the new fixtures which are 52 watt LED with estimated annual use of 29,kwh/year at a cost of only $2,385. Saving about $10,825 a year.
